Let’s talk about Dance & Ice

Dance Mediation

With the digital dance mediation format Let’s talk about Dance & Ice we want to open up new approaches to aspects of contemporary dance and performance art. In doing so, all interested parties are cordially invited to enter into conversation with each other. In digital spaces, questions, individual perceptions and thoughts can be shared. In a mindful and respectful atmosphere, space will be created for tracing one’s own knowledge.

Knowledge from dance education, contemporary skating, dance science, theater science and dramaturgy will flow into the conversations in a supportive way. The element EIS accompanies us from different perspectives in three thematic blocks.

Theme Block 1 | Examples from contemporary dance

We will start with examples from contemporary dance: Pina Bausch and the German Dance Theater, concept dance by Jérôme Bel and Meg Stuart as well as current topics on German dance stages in the works of Jérôme Bel, Meg Stuart, Christoph Winkler and Ahmed Soura. With the help of the dance analysis tool B.A.S.T.E. and the performance analysis according to E. Fischer-Lichte we will look for points of contact to dance on the medium of ice.

Moderation: Maren Witte

Theme Block 2 | Fascination of rolling movement & dance perspectives

From changing perspectives we look at different possibilities of rolling in performative situations. Aspects of Laban's movement analysis can help to find words and terms to enter into conversation and to think further.

We will talk with the artists Vera Rosner and Felix Bürkle about the special facets of rolling on dance stages and look together for similarities between rolling and gliding movement.

Moderation: Eva Blaschke

Theme Block 3 | Pioneers of contemporary impulses in 20th century figure skating

Finally, we explore groundbreaking impulses in figure skating of the last century.

We look at the contemporary backgrounds of selected pieces by Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean, Kurt Browning as well as Gary Beacom, in which methods and concepts of modern and contemporary dance found their way into the world of figure skating. In direct conversation with the world stars Gary Beacom and Kurt Browning we will gain insights into their respective artistic work, share our perceptions and have room for questions.

Moderation: Julia Heinrichs
